The last few months have disproved a theory that has become current in recent times - that of decoupling. The theory goes that the growth emanating from emerging markets had become so strong that it had in fact decoupled from the rest of the world and would continue in spite of the growth dynamics in the developed world. The idea came about from the impressive stock market performance of global emerging markets, which have consistently outperformed developed markets over the last five years.
