Shares in Northern Rock fell a further 40% in early morning trading to a low of 60p and trading was briefly suspended on the beleaguered stock. The share price has since recovered to 81p by 11am, down 20% on the day. The fall follows Monday's 22% drop after the bank admitted that the proposals it received last Friday were "materially below" its market value. The Newcastle-based bank is believed to have received ten expressions of interest on Friday, the deadline for bids.
