Alliance Trust and Templeton Emerging Markets have both appeared on the FTSE reserve list for entry into the flagship FTSE 100 index. Either trust could replace Resolution when the life insurer drops out early next month. The duo are among five names – the others being Burberry Group, Drax and Easyjet – on the FTSE reserve list. Alliance Trust has the largest market cap of the quintet. Traditionally, the larger global trusts only appear in the FTSE 100 index during times of market volatility but get pushed out when the share price of mainstream firms recover.
