The Irish market is continuing to strengthen, according to Gervais Williams, manager of Gartmore’s Irish Growth fund. Williams believes GDP of around 5.5% is expected in the country this year. “A key engine of growth for Ireland is the national development plan or NDP, of which a significant element will be spending on infrastructure,” he said. Key stocks Willliams favours for his fund include Ryanair, which is well-positioned to enjoy favourable trading conditions given the very limited supply of short-haul aircraft in Europe, he said.
