Arbitrageurs have been building a stake in the £2.5bn Alliance Trust. Deutsche Bank has taken a 3% stake in the trust on behalf of an unnamed hedge fund or activist investor. A likely buyer being touted by analysts is Lars Bader, managing partner of QVT Financial. QVT is part of a consortium of investors which has built up a 29.7% stake in Peter Webb’s Eaglet and is looking to oust three directors from the small-cap trust’s board.
