Alliance Trust hit a record year-end NAV per share of £4.22 over 12 months to 31 January, preserving capital by building a 7% cash position as markets entered a more uncertain phase. Chief executive of the trust Alan Harden said this has subsequently allowed the managers to take advantage of a fall in stock markets and other opportunities in the first quarter of the year. Over the year, the trust’s net asset value rose 39% to £2.8bn, following the merger with the Second Alliance Trust.
