Working for Amicus, I am struck by the importance of having professional staff. The existing arrangements at many employers are largely hit and miss. Employers jump when the FSA tells them to on compliance, they spend a small fortune on recruitment and retention in labour market hot spots and what is left of the training and development budget goes on management development schemes.
