Ruffer Europe heads sector over three years, followed by more conventional balanced portfolios from Neptune and Miton

Stockpicking among small and mid-cap European stocks has taken Tim Youngman's Ruffer European fund to top spot in the Balanced Managed sector over three years. Something of an anomaly in a peer group of balanced portfolios, the vehicle aims to achieve absolute returns by investing in equity and fixed interest holdings in the UK and Continental Europe Over three years to 3 March, it made a cumulative return of 78.42% compared to the sector average of 28.28% according to recent figures from Morningstar.
