Liquid alternatives have traditionally been used as a portfolio diversifier, but investors have frequently ill-timed their allocation to the asset class, experts warned.

As its name suggests, liquid alternatives are a mix of alternative investment strategies, securities or techniques that offer investors differentiated sources of return versus traditional equity and fixed income markets.
