There is an unsaid adage in fund management about 'grey hair' and 'scars', which means up and coming talent in the industry can be overlooked in favour of those with a decade or two of investment experience under their belt.

While it can be tempting to follow a Neil Woodford, Harry Nimmo or Nigel Thomas forever, it is also unwise to ignore their younger peers and the likely star managers of the future. However, identifying the next generation of money managers in an industry that is home to thousands of funds is no mean feat, and probably the main reason why some are overlooked.
