Many column inches have been devoted to the eagerly awaited retail distribution review (RDR) and how it could rejuvenate the investment trust sector.

Speculation has been mounting the removal of trail commission could at last put the vehicles on a par with their open-ended peers. The way I see it, the investment trust sector mimics the career of rock band Status Quo. This maybe a unlikely comparison but investment trusts- like Status Quo-have a fan base whose average age is north of 50, are complicated to ‘get' unless you have a genuine interest and have failed to reinvent themselves in a rapidly changing environment.
