US shares slide further after hefty losses for UK

US shares fell for the second day running overnight as investors continued to take profits after the recent run-up to multi-year highs.

Markets including the Dow and the S&P 500 all slid further, with the latter index seeing its worst two-day loss since November, as investors continued selling down riskier assets. The mood on Wall Street was hurt by the latest jobless figures which ticked higher than expected, and despite a late rally both indices finished lower. The Dow closed down 0.34% or 47 points at 13,880, while the S&P 500 shed 0.6% or 9.5 points, falling to 1,502.
