Nathaniel Rothschild, the financier, has confirmed his position as one of the most powerful brokers in the country after smashing the fund raising target for his new venture.
In a London share sale on Friday, £1.35bn was raised by Rothschild and his partner Tony Hayward, the former boss of BP. The pair made headlines last week with their claim to raise £1bn in 11 days from the float of Valleres, a company that will aim to buy emerging market oil and gas businesses. Hayward said he was 'heartened' by the investor support for Vallares, which sold a 133 million shares at around £10 each to UK and US investors, according to the FT. Vallares' structure is based on that of Vallar - another cash shell launched by Rothschild last year - which invested in stakes...
