HSBC was looking to launch an open-ended protected fund, which would invest in a mix of FTSE 100 equities and cash. The Oeic was to carry around a 90% capital protection, managed by the French firm Sinopia Asset Management - a subsidiary of HSBC running a number of open-ended structured products. Axa Investment Management was also market-testing an open-ended structured product, designed to give participation in stock market growth as well as protection from downturns.
