Some 77% of equity Isa investors are unaware that from April 2004 their share dividends will no longer be tax free, according to a survey conducted for Isis Asset Management. The survey by NMG Research also revealed that of those investors who are aware of the tax charge, 45% are less likely to invest in Isas as a result. While the Chancellor has proposed that tax credits on dividends of equity Isas are removed, corporate bonds and funds invested in bonds will continue to enjoy full tax free income within Isas and Peps.
