10-year figures show uk corporate bonds have returned 1% per year ahead of equities
UK corporate bonds have outperformed equities by an average of 1% per year over the past 10 years, according to the latest Equity-Gilt Study from Barclays Capital. UK corporate bonds produced an average annual return of 9.6% over the last 10 years, compared with 8.6% for UK equities and 8% for gilts. The Barclays Capital study, put together by Fred Cleary, Tim Bond and Mark Capleton at the group, also found that £100 invested in UK equities at the end of 2000 would have fallen to £86 in real terms by the end of 2001.
