With-profits funds have been in the firing line in recent years but there will always be investors for whom it is crucial to limit the potential capital losses while keeping potential for gains

An investor considering with-profits is likely to be willing to accept a moderate amount of risk in exchange for long-term growth through exposure to equity markets. The investor will then expect the fund to be actively managed so that it can switch into other asset classes such as fixed interest, property or cash, thereby mitigating falls in the equity market. Above all, the investor will be looking for a consistently performing fund from a financially strong provider that over an extended period of time will continue making progress through good years and bad, with no dramatic shocks. ...
