The Government's push to facilitate e-commerce came at the end of last year in the form of the Electronic Communications Bill introduced, in the House of Commons on 18 November 1999, as its legislative vanguard. The Bill was warmly recognised both as a precursor to a general explosion of e-commerce within Europe, and as a statutory basis for a strong UK role within e-commerce.
