At whichever level you analyse it, the economic environment at the moment is marked by ambiguity.
On a global level, the economy is showing clear signs of a slowdown. In China, as well as the UK and the eurozone, GDP data are pointing to contraction faster than the authorities thought. In addition, corporate earnings data have been disappointing compared to expectations. In other words, the economic backdrop is bleak. However, because of this, global central bankers are taking extreme measures to try to lift sentiment.
