Emerging markets were far from immune from the financial crisis that crippled many developed economies in 2008/09. Their growing correlation with the developed world was highlighted again last year when, due to escalating concerns in Europe and a slow economic recovery in the US, the MSCI Emerging Markets index fell to a year-low of 824.39 in October 2011.
