Parents will be able to choose from basic deposit account CTFs, stakeholder CTFs which must partially invest in equities and non stakeholder CTFs which have greater investment freedom
The Child Trust Fund (CTF) is a long-term savings and investment account for children announced by the Chancellor in his April 2003 Budget. In January this year the first of approximately two million vouchers were sent out and it is estimated that from March 2005 around 60,000 new children each month will be eligible for the CTF. There is no need to apply to have a baby included. The government is using child benefit lists to know who to pay the money to - so parents who receive child benefit will get the fund cash as well.
