Changes to distributor status on many offshore funds will mean that these do not offer the same tax advantages that they once offered in comparison to onshore funds. Furthermore, recent changes to the UCITS directive intended to make more types of fund eligible to be distributed in the EU will not eliminate country differences. The differences could include what costs a fund may have, and the investments a fund is permitted to make, because individual EU member states have different views on diversification and investment rules.
