The growth in the use of fund supermarkets has been slow, but as these can save advisers' time and money their use is expected to grow, as has been the case in the US

In the last decade intermediary distribution models have changed relatively little because of the rigidities of regulation. There were intermediaries selecting from the whole of the market, or tied sales teams. The growth of open architecture life companies brought about some development, but change in external fund choice was slow. If the advice model has been frozen on the outside, on the inside one of the biggest changes in the structure of intermediary businesses has been the growth of platforms or fund supermarkets.
