Aberdeen's Gilbert: We will 'lose credibility' if we reopen EM funds

Aberdeen Asset Management's CEO Martin Gilbert has dismissed the option of re-opening the group's soft-closed emerging market equity products, despite continuing outflows from the funds.

Aberdeen moved to restrict inflows to its popular EM equity fund range in 2012, soft-closing Devan Kaloo's Global Emerging Markets Equity and Emerging Markets Equity funds due to strong inflows. However, continued outflows from the range, partly due to the fall in investor demand for emerging markets, have led to speculation the group could re-open the funds. But this morning Aberdeen chief executive Gilbert (pictured) dismissed the suggestion, saying opening the funds would mean Aberdeen "loses all credibility with the consultant community".
