Pictet taps into trends for long- term growth

According to Pictet Asset Management, it is possible to identify slowly evolving tendencies - in demographics, the environment and society - that can be forecast with some confidence.

Over the last decade, the group has launched nine funds aiming to exploit these ‘megatrends’ as well as the Global Megatrend portfolio, which offers investors more diverse exposure through an equal weighting across the range. One single-theme fund is Pictet Timber, which is co-managed by Christoph Butz and Gabriel Micheli and looks to invest worldwide in shares of companies active across the entire timber value chain, with a focus on those that own and/or manage forests. “People usually buy forest on the private equity side as a very long-term investment,” explained Micheli. “But you ...
