Following the launch of the latest Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW), what are the implications of the findings for investors?

Today, the BBFAW published its fifth annual Benchmark of how global food companies are managing and reporting on farm animal welfare - and it provides a mixed picture.  An increasing number of companies (including Cargill, Cranswick, Greggs, McDonalds, Marks & Spencer, Noble Foods, Tesco, Unilever and Waitrose) can be considered to have well-developed management systems and processes.  However, 42 of the 99 companies evaluated provide scant information on their approach to farm animal welfare.
