Top picks: The best alternative trusts with attractive entry points

Alternative assets have dominated investment trust fundraising in 2015. A significant portion of the record net £3.9bn raised since the start of the year to 14 September was allocated to higher-yielding vehicles in areas including specialist debt and infrastructure, according to the AIC.

Big new issues this year include UK Mortgages from TwentyFour Asset Management (£250m), private equity investment company, Apax Global Alpha (£218m) and Sequoia Economic Infrastructure (£150m). Meanwhile, trusts investing in peer-to-peer lending proved popular. P2P Global Investments has raised £650m through two C share issues this year and the new issue, while VPC Speciality Lending Investments raised £200m in March and is currently raising more money.
