The FTSE 100 slipped in early morning trading after making a quick gain straight after the opening bell. By 8:45am the benchmark blue-chip index had fallen 4.78 points (0.11%) to 4225.54. Miners were making fast gains with Anglo American, Rio Tinto and Kazakhmys all rising in early trade. Anglo American was up 3.51% to £17.10 as rumours spread China's Chinalco or Brazil's Vale may step in with merger plans after Xstrata were rejected on Monday.
