Gold, gilts and cash have been the best performing asset classes over one year to 31 March, according to Norwich Union’s senior economist Stewart Robertson. Gold has returned 38.9%, index linked gilts 9.8% and gilts 5.8% over the period, while cash has delivered 3.1%. By contrast, the worst performers over 12 months have included the Topix index in Japan, losing investors 22.9%, and UK commercial property which lost 9.2%.
