What exactly is an emerging market? The term "emerging market" was first coined by the World Bank in the early 1980s. It denotes an economy that is beginning to emerge on to the world stage, usually with a nascent stockmarket that is in the early stages of allowing investment from abroad. Emerging markets generally have low to middling per capita income and are in the process of implementing economic developments and reforms.
