UK investors find plenty of reasons not to invest in the United States and continuing fallout from the sub-prime crisis is the most recent of these. It joins the old adages that: what you gain on the market you lose on the currency, the US is fundamentally too expensive, leadership is moving to Asia and it is almost impossible to find a manager who can outperform the S&P 500 consistently.
