Pensions are geared towards providing benefits at the traditional retirement age, so those wishing to retire early should consider a bridging retirement fund. A series of retirement proposals have come to light that will have consequences for those wishing to retire early. These include a rise in the state pension age from 65 to 67, an increase in the minimum retirement age from 50 to 55 by April 2010, and the increase of the state pension age to 65 for women. These factors, combined with a mistrust of pensions as a retirement planning vehicle, have caused many to seek alternative options....
