In the past there were not many options when purchasing a pension at retirement, but now there are many alternative options which provide a much wider choice for investors

The traditional advice handed out by intermediaries was to take early action in pension planning and primarily ensure a comfortable pension fund for retirement. But today the arguments are even more compelling if, as forecasted, the state pension system is going to be of limited benefit in the future. In addition, criticism of the inflexibility associated with purchasing a pension at retirement no longer applies and the options now available are sufficient to meet an individual's needs.
