Picking the right contract can have a beneficial impact on a client's level of retirement income. There may not be that many players in the market but the rates on offer vary considerably and it is worthwhile shopping around

The role of the annuity specialist comes into its own with enhanced and impaired life annuities, where the difference in rates between a conventional and properly underwritten quotation can be staggering (see Table 1). It is particularly important for those in poor health or with detrimental lifestyle factors to gain access to the open market option because so few providers operate in the enhanced/impaired markets.
