Skandia’s portfolio manager Lee Freeman-Shor has swapped Barings’ James Buckley for former favourite Dirk Enderlein on the Skandia European Best Ideas fund.
Skandia has handed Wellington Management's Enderlein a €34m mandate, with Freeman-Shor (pictured) describing him as Europe's premier growth manager.
Enderlein had previously run a mandate from European Best Ideas while at RCM between 2008 and 2009, before being removed following his departure for Wellington.
"Given that I have ten managers, I have therefore decided to remove incumbent manager James Buckley. This opportunity cost decision was driven by the fact I was keen for the portfolio to have exposure to the structural growth stocks that Dirk buys as well as his execution skills," said Freeman-Shor.
"The opportunity, from the fund's perspective, was obvious to me. In my view if the best growth manager in Europe makes his services available to you, then you snap up the opportunity just like you would if Lionel Messi asked to play football for your team."
The €364m European Best Ideas fund, whose other managers include Crispin Odey, Jupiter's Cédric de Fonclare and Liontrust's James Inglis-Jones, has returned 51% over the past three years versus an average of 23.3% for Europe ex-UK funds, according to FE.
