Brooks Macdonald Asset Management has bolstered its UK equity capabilities with the hire of ex-New Star manager Toby Thompson.
Thompson has joined the group as an investment manager specialising in running UK equity portfolios.
At New Star Thompson ran the UK Equity Income and Higher Income funds, but did not move across to Henderson when it completed its takeover of New Star in 2009.
Prior to joining New Star in 2002, Thompson worked at Newton, where he managed the Higher Income fund.
Nick Holmes, joint managing director at Brooks Macdonald said: "Attracting an individual of Toby's calibre is a real coup for our business and we are delighted to have someone with his experience and reputation join our investment team.
"We are continuing to expand the number of investment managers to cater for the support we continue to receive from our professional advisers. Maintaining our service standards to clients and their advisers is a key component of our success."
