M&G is the UK's oldest unit trust company and has had its fair share of ups and downs since it was established in 1931. A notable recent milestone in the company's history was Prudential's effort to access the retail space by taking over M&G in 1999. The disruption caused by the buyout is widely seen as the source of M&G's recent difficulties, from which it has taken several years to recover.
