In debating the question of whether ownership of an IFA firm by a product provider is a disadvantage, most believed it was. Among the reasons cited were: • There is bound to be a conflict of interest. • No, but why is the 'better than best' rule not being retained? • I have not worked for an IFA firm owned by a product provider, so it is difficult to assess, but I can imagine clients being suspicious of recommendations involving the products of the company that owns the IFA. Does this help with the title 'independent'? I am not sure it does. • Impartiality and complete independence...
