Housing remains one of the brighter spots for the US economy. After enduring four years of depression, the housing industry began to recover in 2012 and now seems more like a tailwind than a headwind.

The number of households in the US increased by 1.3 million in 2015, building on an upward trend that began in 2014.   A further tailwind for the US is the fact that many US companies continue to be highly innovative and technological advances have kept the country on the cutting edge of change. For example, the biopharmaceutical sector's significant investments in R&D have helped drive its contributions to the US economy and allowed it to be a world leader in the development of new medicines.
