Fund managers have expressed scepticism over the creation of a Great British ISA, arguing it is “unlikely to be the catalyst for fresh investment into the UK”.

In its Q1 fund manager sentiment study, encompassing 176 interviews across asset classes, UK equity managers told Square Mile investor sentiment remains subdued despite slowing outflows from the asset class. They argued the recently introduced GB ISA is likely not going to have the intended effect of reversing nearly three years of consistent outflows from UK equities. The UK market rallied in the last two months of 2023, but this abated in January and February, Square Mile said, only for it to pick up again in March with investors returning to large- and mid-caps.
