After two weeks of intense negotiations and an avalanche of sectoral side deals, the COP26 Climate Summit was finally brought to a close by an emotional Alok Sharma late on Saturday night. The hope is that the new Glasgow Climate Pact, signed off by nearly 200 nations, will play a significant role in curbing future temperature increases, through its calls for enhanced national climate plans, action on methane, a 'phase down' of some fossil fuel subsidies and coal power plans, and enhanced support for developing nations on the frontlines of climate change.
