Why we need closer scrutiny of funds' parent groups

One of my favourite questions when interviewing for new members of my team is: ‘What is your definition of relationship management?'

I will spare you the array of what I regard as ‘wrong’ answers. The answer I look for is: ‘It is a form of risk management’. Given that nobody has yet to offer this as an answer means I am either interviewing the wrong people (I know this to be untrue) or we are hard wired to think the word ‘relationship’ has softer connotations.  But I believe whatever form of relationship or interaction you undertake it is fundamental you understand what you are dealing with.
