Majority of UK MPs vote in favour of Brexit bill

Follows Supreme Court rulling

Members of UK parliament have voted by a majority of nearly 500 to allow Prime Minister Theresa May to begin Brexit talks.

According to the BBC, following two days of debate on the bill, MPs in the House of Commons supported the European Union bill by 498 votes to 114. May faced objections from the Scottish National Party, Wales's Plaid Cymru, 47 Labour MPs and Tory ex-Chancellor Ken Clarke. The government's strategy for leaving the EU, a process which which is expected to take two years following the activation of Article 50, will face further scrutiny today from politicians and the public with the publication of a white paper. Foreign secretary Boris Johnson said the result was "absolutely momentous"...
