Dennehy Weller: ‘Sell in May' could work again in 2012

Equity investors who ‘sell in May and go away' look well placed for a third consecutive year of outperformance, according to research from Dennehy Weller's FundExpert.co.uk platform.

A study from the adviser firm investigating the merits of the 'St Leger' method - selling on 1 May and only returning to stock markets following the second Saturday in September (St Leger's Day) - found the strategy reaped rewards in 2010 and 2011, and suggests there is "an element of déjà-vu about markets" this year.
