Gartmore has closed its £4m UK Bear and £5m US Bear funds, due to a limited number of investors and poor performance. The vehicles were inherited by Gartmore after it merged several Govett funds into its own range. They had consistently underperformed over the last three years and were never actively marketed by the group. Gartmore said it believes there are better ways for investors to benefit from down markets, including derivatives and absolute return funds.
