Standard Life Investments has hired former Ignis manager Jonathan Fearon to manage its European Equity Growth fund.

Fearon will also manage the European equity component of the Global Advantage fund, as well as analysing the European banking sector.

He previously managed the £19.9m Ignis Pan Europe fund. SLI replaced him on that portfolio with Tony Hood in September following its acquisition of Ignis.

Kay Eyre will remain deputy manager of the European Equity Growth fund.

SLI has also hired former Citigroup director Tom Dorner as an investment director. The hires swell the European equities team to 12 people.

SLI head of European equities Stan Pearson said: “These senior appointments will strengthen the European equities team, reflecting further investment in our capabilities to help us continue to achieve strong performance and returns for our clients."

SLI finalised its acquisition of Ignis Asset Management this summer, and has since embarked on a programme of rationalisation. The shake-up has seen a number of managers jump ship, with former Ignis European Growth manager Ian Ormiston joining Old Mutual Global Investors in October.
