Fund buyers weigh up replacements for Dean’s distinctive business cycle approach

This week Schroders was rocked by the departure of former Cazenove Capital manager Julie Dean, but with her next move as yet unknown, fund buyers have named a number of alternatives for UK exposure.

Dean had over a decade of experience running money for Cazenove prior to the group's takeover by Schroders last year, and had built up an enviable track record at the helm of the £2.2bn Schroder UK Opportunities fund. She has consistently outperformed using her renowned business cycle investment process, which sees the team actively allocate to stocks depending on their place in a four-stage business cycle. The strategy is regarded as one of the main reasons for the fund's success, although many other managers have their own way of inputting macro factors into their investment policy....
