The UK witnessed its hottest summer since 1976 this year, allowing some sectors that struggled in the first quarter of 2018 to thrive in the second.

The UK witnessed its hottest summer since 1976 this year, allowing some sectors that struggled in the first quarter of 2018 to thrive in the second. According to the ONS' Q2 report, the warm weather, in addition to a royal wedding and a respectable World Cup campaign for the English national football team, saw the likes of pubs and retail firms benefit. However, other companies - notably those in the energy sector - suffered the opposite fate, as their share prices dived. Here, Investment Week looks at some of the biggest winners and losers from the summer heatwave of 2018.
