Financial services has highest mean pay gap

The financial services industry had the highest mean gender pay gap (GPG) for 2017/18, data shows, with 416 firms in the sector meeting the government deadline to publish their reports.

Overall, 10,108 UK companies complied, reporting a mean GPG of 14.5% and a mean gender bonus gap (GBG) of 15.1%. In comparison, the mean GPG for firms involved with financial and insurance activities was 25.9%, according to Staffmetrix.  Legislation introduced in April 2017 requires UK companies with 250 or more employees to publish their GPG on an annual basis in a move to tackle workplace discrimination.
