Renewed fears over China's slowdown have hit Japanese equity markets just as the country's reform programme comes under pressure, Hardeep Tawakley reports.

China's woes have had serious knock-on effects on global markets this year and neighbour/rival Japan is no exception. The rout from the Shanghai Composite in August prompted a 4% drop for the Nikkei 225 on ‘Black Monday'; its largest fall in over two years. It was a far cry from June, when the Nikkei closed at its highest level since 2000 and the MSCI Japan index was up by more than 15% since the beginning of the year, having been able to shrug off many of the political and economic challenges that had plagued other markets in 2015.
